30,000 unborn babies already saved by repeal of Roe v. Wade in US

Over 30,000 unborn lives have already been saved as a direct result of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the United States in June 2022.

A study has found that there were cumulatively 32,260 fewer abortions in the US between July to December 2022 when compared with state figures before the repeal of Roe v. Wade.

On 24 June 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the infamous 1973 ruling that enshrined abortion as a constitutional right across the US. Since then, millions of unborn lives have been lost to abortion.

In total, there was an average of 5,377 fewer abortions in the six months following the 2022 repeal of Roe. In at least 13 US states where abortion bans were subsequently triggered, there was a 96% drop in abortion overall.

Last December, SPUC also reported that abortion in Texas had fallen by up to 97% since the repeal of Roe v. Wade.

From July to December 2022, 77,073 legal abortions were still recorded. Abortions obtained via virtual clinics also increased during that same period, and now represent 9% of all abortions in the US.

However, a pro-abortion group has estimated that there could be 60,000 fewer abortions in the US in 2023.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Over 30,000 unborn lives saved is great news, most of all for those babies that can now go on to live life and make their own choices. They will have names, careers, relationships, and even children of their own.

“Already we can see the practical effect of the repeal of Roe v. Wade. While just a few years ago this seemed almost impossible, 2022 showed us just what can be achieved.

“This is what pro-lifers around the globe are fighting for. We are one step closer to a world where abortion is unthinkable.”
