to oppose the
legalisation of assisted suicide
Campaign groups are working hard to legalise assisted suicide in the UK. MPs need to be constantly reminded of the dangers of assisted suicide.
You can use this tool to write to your MP to ask them to oppose assisted suicide whenever it is next voted on.
Please send a message to your MPs telling them why you do not want assisted suicide to be legalised.

Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to you to express how concerned I am about the prospect of assisted suicide being legalised in the UK.
While there is currently no Bill on the issue in Westminster, legislation is being considered in Scotland, Jersey and the Isle of Man.
I know that advocates of “assisted dying” want to make sure that people do not suffer pain at the end of life. However, assisted suicide is not a solution to pain. Good palliative care should ensure that pain is controlled well. I’ve also been shocked at recent media reports of people suffering horrible deaths due to adverse effects of experimental drugs used for assisted suicide in other countries.
I’ve also been horrified by the stories emerging from Canada of marginalised people seeking an ‘assisted death’ due to poverty, disability and homelessness. With living costs soaring, the UK cannot afford a regime that leads people to choose death out of fear of poverty or homelessness.
Assisted suicide also puts pressure on vulnerable people. Where assisted suicide is legal, one reason people choose to die is because they feel they are a burden on others.
People with disabilities and the terminally ill will particularly fear the passing of this law which could make them feel pressured to end their lives.
The majority of doctors in the UK remain opposed to assisted dying. This opposition is strongest amongst doctors who work most closely with dying patients.
For all these reasons, I believe that assisted suicide should never be legalised in the UK. I urge you to speak out against legalising any form of assisted suicide in the UK.
Yours sincerely,

Most doctors remain opposed to assisted suicide
The majority of doctors in the UK remain opposed to the introduction of assisted dying. This opposition is strongest amongst doctors who work most closely with dying patients.
Earlier this year, SPUC reported on a recent Association of Palliative Medicine (APM) survey that found such doctors were "concerned" that a focus on "traumatic" and "negative" patient cases was being used to manipulate the British public into supporting assisted suicide.
