our Abortion and Coercion Briefing

Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to you because I am concerned about women being coerced into abortions. A poll commissioned by the BBC last year found that 15% of British women had faced pressure to have an abortion that they did not want; that is not 15% of women who have had abortions – but 15% of all women surveyed.
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children ran an event in Parliament on 25 October, where they shared the stories of women who have been coerced into abortion. If you didn’t make it to the event, the briefing can be found here: https://www.spuc.org.uk/Portals/0/ThemePluginPro/uploads/2023/10/30/Abortion%20and%20Coercion%20briefing%20Sept%202023.pdf
If you would like to take action on this issue, SPUC can provide further materials – contact Alithea Williams at alitheawilliams@spuc.org.uk.
Kind regards,

A recent BBC poll found that 15% of British women had been coerced into having an abortion that they did not want. This data is shocking – and shows that coercion in abortion decisions is an urgent and immediate threat to women's health and wellbeing and is an often-unrecognised form of domestic abuse.
We need to make MPs aware of this problem.
On 25 October 2023, SPUC held an event in Parliament specifically on the problem of coerced abortion.
Thank you to everyone who invited their MP to the event. A number of them told us that it was your email that prompted them to come, so it really does make a difference!
We need to keep working to get Government to recognise the problem of coerced abortion, and to take action to combat it. Please write to your MP to send them a link to the SPUC briefing on the issue.
