Pro-life woman injured in unprovoked attack on SPUC Project Truth stall in Dundee

An elderly pro-life woman was knocked over and injured during an attack on SPUC’s Project Truth stall in Dundee last week. SPUC has condemned the unprovoked attack.

On Thursday afternoon, police responded to an attack on SPUC’s Project Truth stall on Dundee’s high street.

A man approached the stall and flipped it over, knocking over an elderly pro-life bystander – she was not a member of Project Truth. The lady, in her 80s, suffered a slight head wound during the incident.

The culprit was later apprehended by police but only given a warning.

SPUC’s Project Truth is a youth initiative bringing the pro-life message to the streets of Scotland, one city at a time. Every summer, young pro-lifers seek to engage in positive discussions with members of the public, hoping to change hearts and minds one conversation at a time.

The roadshow, which travels to multiple cities and towns in Scotland, also provides an excellent opportunity for young people aged 18 to 30 to gain experience and confidence in conversing publicly about abortion.

The vast majority of interactions with the public are positive and constructive.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is very troubling that our stall was attacked in this manner. Such aggressive behaviour is unacceptable, made worse because an elderly lady was injured during the attack.

“No person should ever resort to violence. We see that pro-abortion sentiment is increasingly turning to violence in the attempt to shut down pro-lifers. We have seen similar incidents on UK campuses.

“Pro-lifers are on the frontline of free speech in the UK, and that right to peaceful debate is under threat from a small but vociferous minority of persons whose first instinct is to turn to violence when faced with an alternative point of view.

“SPUC will not give in to such violence. Pro-lifers are not the problem. We will always advocate peaceful dialogue, with the end goal of creating a world where abortion is unthinkable.”
