Exeter University pro-life students subject to “horrific abuse” and death threats

Exeter Students for Life, a pro-life student group, has received a torrent of hateful, “horrific abuse”, including death threats, online. A pro-abortion petition, seeking to have the group “cancelled”, has also been launched, with signatures already exceeding 3,000.

Pro-life society members at the University of Exeter have received serious abuse as an online petition was started, demanding that the group be disbanded.

One pro-abortion abuser threatened the group directly, posting online: “Fav place in Exeter gonna be the BOTTOM of the quay if u int careful.”

Another person said: “Someone beat him up.” This comment was directed at a male member of the pro-life group.

Alireza Torbati, President of Exeter Students for Life, stated: “As a society, we speak up for and take a stand for the rights of pre-born children, 200,000 of which lose their lives to abortion every year in this country.

“The death threats made against members of our society are completely unacceptable and deeply disturbing.”

Alireza added: “Exeter University must be a marketplace for free thinking, which is what universities are designed to be.”

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “The horrific abuse that members of Exeter Students for Life have received in recent days is truly disgusting. Something must be done, now.

“Students should be supported and not suffer such blatant intimidation. Yet, young men and women who are seeking to communicate and uphold pro-life values, as well as seek dialogue within the university, which is supposedly a safe, free speech space, are being harassed openly.

“They have even received death threats.

“SPUC expects the University of Exeter to hold those to account for such unacceptable comments and threats. It is not only the well-being and health, both mental and physical, of pro-life students at risk here, but also the reputation of the University.”
