Super Bowl champion releases insightful pro-life documentary speaking the truth about abortion

Pro-life NFL player Benjamin Watson, who won Super Bowl XXXIX with the New England Patriots in 2005, has produced a pro-life documentary, “Divided Hearts of America”, which seeks “to unveil the truth about abortion”.

The NFL star Benjamin Watson, who is pro-life and spoke at the 2017 March for Life, has said that his documentary sets out “to unveil the truth about abortion, the laws, the history and where our country is headed”.

“I believe in the sanctity of life, be it in the womb or on your deathbed. That’s my conviction. But with the film, I’ll engage those who disagree and hear their reasoning. The No. 1 thing I’m looking for is empathy on both sides”, said Watson.

“Divided Hearts of America” looks at the current abortion debate in the United States by interviewing more than 30 Americans from different fields of knowledge and persuasion. The documentary reaches out to an audience beyond the pro-life movement, while also communicating essential truths about abortion.

Dr. Monica Ruberu, an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist, as well as a pro-life speaker, taking part in the documentary, said that what she notices most about abortion “is that emotionally, women are traumatized…

“They’re dealing with the anxiety and the depression of that loss and they’re being told by society that they should shout their abortions and they should be proud of that choice, but inside they’re in such turmoil.”

The documentary also points out the relationship between abortion and race in the United States, including the fact that in New York City “more black babies have been aborted than born alive”.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is always encouraging to see a prominent pro-lifer, such as Benjamin Watson, championing the pro-life cause and raising issues that others shy away from.

“Communicating the truth is vital to combatting abortion. The points that are raised by this documentary cannot be ignored.

“As SPUC also highlights, the effect that abortion has on women often goes unstated, but as Dr Ruberu says, many women are traumatized by abortion.

“Despite the divisions, in America and elsewhere, pro-lifers should never give up. Speaking the truth and informing others, including the other side, is an indispensable part of what we do.”
