Fate of pregnant Irish mother on life support to be decided

29 December 2014

The young mother is 17 weeks pregnant and being kept alive on a life-support machine

Three Irish judges will rule in the case of a young Irish mother who has been described as "brain dead" but is being kept alive on a life-support machine.

The young mother is currently pregnant with a baby who has reached 17 weeks gestation. Neurosurgeons recommended switching off her life-support, but other doctors and lawyers for Ireland’s Health Service Executive have sought a legal ruling. [22 December, Irish Times]
