SPUC is demanding an immediate investigation following the disclosure that two women have died after taking abortion drugs.

The deaths were disclosed in the Court of Appeal yesterday during a case brought by Christian Concern challenging the legality of Matt Hancock’s approval of “the home of a pregnant woman” as a place where abortions can take place.

Alithea Williams, SPUC Parliamentary Research Officer said: “The truth is coming out that abortion pills are dangerous, even fatal, for women. Neither the Government nor the abortion industry care about women’s health and wellbeing. It’s time to tell the truth about abortion pills.”

Leaked NHS email: Escalating risks of pills in post

Christian Concern presented evidence from a leaked email sent by a senior chief midwife at NHS England and NHS Improvement to NHS staff on  “escalating risks” of the “pills in the post” scheme.

The leaked email revealed that incidents related to the “pills in the post” scheme included ruptured ectopic pregnancies, resuscitation for haemorrhage and the babies being delivered up to 30 weeks’ gestation.

SPUC’s Alithea Williams added: “Two woman are dead.  And tragedies arising from the pills through the post scheme include a baby aborted alive and then killed and women are taking abortion pills whose unborn babies are well past the 10-week limit for chemical abortions.

“This madness has got to stop now. There is ample evidence that abortions pills are far from safe and simple.

“We are mobilising our supporters up and down the country to ask their MP as a matter of extreme urgency to contact the Department of Health and Social Care to investigate all abortion providers who are sending deadly abortion drugs to women through the post.”

In 2016 CQC inspections of Mare Stopes International clinics in England revealed over 2,600 breaches of health and safety. Some MSI clinics were temporarily closed as a result.
