Pro-life MP shares personal testimony with SPUC Newcastle conference

Pro-life MP, Mary Glindon shared her personal testimony at the SPUC Newcastle conference.

SPUC supporters from across the North East and Yorkshire were inspired by the moving personal story of Labour MP Mary Glindon.

Mary Glindon, MP for Tyneside North, told the attendees (some of whom were her constituents) that she herself had experience of being in a crisis pregnancy. When she was pregnant and facing being a single mother, her well-meaning friends even offered to pay for an abortion.

Today, her daughter is 35 years old and expecting her first baby.

Over 50 SPUC supporters gathered in Newcastle last Saturday to listen to expert speakers and get up to date information on pro-life issues.

Mrs Glindon was also was full of praise for the work of SPUC, especially the support and information SPUC gives her as an MP.

The other guest speaker at the conference was Dr Dermot Kearney, a consultant cardiologist and president of the Catholic Medical Association, who gave compelling arguments on why we must oppose assisted suicide.

Delegates were also given the latest information on SPUC’s campaign to oppose abortion decriminalisation, and had the chance to attend workshops on different ways to advance the pro-life cause.

Antonia Tully, SPUC’s director of Campaigns, said: "It was wonderful to see so many people dedicating a Saturday to gather together to learn from our expert speakers and from each other. We are so grateful to Mary Glindon MP for sharing her testimony with us, and for all she does to defend unborn babies and their mothers in Parliament.

"The mood at the conference was upbeat and hopeful. It may take two or three more generations to end the scourge of abortion. But that will only be possible if we play our part now. Every pro-life act really matters."

The next regional conference will take place in Liverpool on Saturday 30 May 2020. There will also be conferences in Cardiff, Birmingham, and London.
