Pro-life supporter attacked outside health centre in Belfast

A pro-life supporter has been assaulted outside a health centre in Coleraine, Belfast, in Northern Ireland.

The Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform Northern Ireland (CBR NI), which was leading a vigil outside a health centre in Belfast, reports that one of its supporters was assaulted while holding a pro-life sign.

CBR NI is a pro-life group in Northern Ireland.

“As Christians peacefully stood outside the abortion clinic… offering compassionate support”, a man accosted one of its members, destroyed their pro-life sign and threw it in a bin, CBR NI said.

“We are a collection of people from across the county who are united in our desire to bring a full and absolute end to abortion in our country”, a spokesperson said.

CBR NI captured an image of the alleged assailant and hope to bring him to justice.

Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020 came into force on 31 March 2020 after abortion was imposed on Northern Ireland by Westminster in October 2019.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Violence against any individual, inside or outside the womb, is simply not acceptable.

“The Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform Northern Ireland was peacefully protesting against abortion, as well as offering compassionate service to women considering a termination.

“Rather than engaging with pro-lifers in a reasonable, civilised and rational manner, it appears that the unidentified man acted aggressively against the free speech of peaceful, loving citizens.

“Such abusive behaviour is indicative of the unwillingness of pro-abortion individuals and lobbies to engage with pro-lifers and recognise the violence that is done every day to unborn children – violence resulting in the death of 1,091 babies in less than a year under new Northern Ireland abortion regulations.

“This attack was ultimately an assault on love and the effort to help women and save the unborn.”
