Pro-life activists stage silent protests

25 April 2005 - Hundreds of supporters of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) gave silent witness on Saturday (the 23rd) to unborn babies killed since the passing of the Abortion Act in 1967, as well as to the hurt caused to women by abortion.

More than 50 Pro-Life Chains were held throughout Britain and Northern Ireland. Activists stood at roadsides and at junctions holding placards which brought home the reality of abortion.

The Abortion Act came into force on 27 April 1968, since when more than six million unborn children have been killed through registered abortion in Britain. This figure does not include abortions caused by birth-control methods such as intra-uterine devices and morning-after pills. Nor does it include the number of embryos destroyed or discarded during and after in vitro fertilisation.
